I first tried strata at Old Ebbitt Grill this year and have wanted to try making it myself since. Strata is a breakfast concoction which is basically a hybrid of quiche and casserole. And like it’s cousins strata can take multiple forms. Old Ebbitt’s strata is ham and cheese. The strata we’re about to make has a few more ingredients.
Cheesy Broccoli And Sausage Strata
Start by cutting 6 slices of bread into cubes, thaw out 3 oz of broccoli, slightly beat 3 eggs with 2 1/4 cup of milk, and cut up and brown 2 links of sausage. Take the egg and milk mixture and add 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of barbecue spice, 1 teaspoon of garlic salt. I mix it all in one of my Oxo Good Grips mixing bowl set.
Take a 8 x 12 baking dish and start by layering half the bread cubes on the bottom of the dish. Then layer the broccoli and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Add the remaining bread cubes and layer with the sausage and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Now evenly pour the egg and milk mixture throughout the dish. Top the dish with slices tomato and a sprinkle of paprika. You can place in a preheated over at 350 for 35 minutes or refrigerate over night to cook in the morning.
