The white plastic exterior should stop your hands feeling extremes of temperature from the contents, and also stop your hands warming the contents when mixing cold items. Inside the brushed stainless steel is hygienic and of course shiny (a must in My Shiny Kitchen!). Oxo have ensured the inside is completely rounded so there are no grooves or indentations to get in your way when scraping out the mixed contents.
The set pictured offers three practical size mixing bowls (1.5, 3 and 5 quarts) that will probably suit most home cooks.
Of course there are plenty more materials you could choose for your mixing bowls. Copper are beautiful (and expensive), bamboo is light and practical, plastic is cheap cheerful and easy to scratch, whilst glass and ceramic are great to use but easy to break too.
To be honest I have made do with assorted mixing bowls made from various materials for years. But splashing out on a simple thing like a mixing bowl set with a non-slip base has really made a difference. The smallest bowl is particularly handy as I enjoy making home-made aiolibut hate the time it takes with bowls slipping around the counter. These bowls keep the contents the right temperature and stop everything moving around. Perfect. Plus they stack together neatly which is helping improve my kitchen cupboard chaos situation too! You don’t need a mixing bowl set, but if you get a good one you will be very glad you did.
